Whether you require a minor fix or are planning major plumbing renovations, hiring a licensed plumber with the required level of skill and experience is important. Searching through local ads can be overwhelming considering the amount of plumbing companies out there, so how do you know which one is right for the job?

There are a few things you should learn about your shortlist of plumbers before making your decision:

#1: Quotes

Most plumbers will charge a call-out fee to properly assess the job at hand and provide a written quote for your consideration. At Express Plumbing, we appreciate your business and will remove the call-out fee from the final invoice should you decide to proceed with the job.

While everyone loves a bargain, be wary of unusually cheap quotes, as this can also spell a cheap job. It may seem like a good idea at the time, but could end up costing you more if you then need to rectify the original substandard effort.

#2: Licence

Plumbing is an experienced trade, so hiring a licensed plumber is vital. You should be able to see their licence number on their ad or quote; otherwise you can request to see it, as they should also carry a card.

#3: Insurance

A plumber’s insurance will cover both parties in the case of any mishaps during the job, so making sure the plumber has insurance in place is a must. On the contrary, hiring a plumber without insurance? Huge no-no!

#4: Guarantee

A warranty or guarantee will likely come with new installations, but not always on a plumbing repair. Find out what the guarantee covers, whether labour and parts, or just one or the other. That way you’re both on the same page with what to expect if something goes wrong soon after.

#5: Plumbing Experience

Experience is essential to ensure a job well done. Ask how long the plumber has been working in the industry and how often they have attended to this type of job. Most plumbers will have common fix-its down-pat, but you might need a plumber who specialises in a particular area if it’s a large or uncommon job.

#6: Real Testimonials

A good plumber should be able to show you testimonials or references from past jobs. Anyone can talk themselves up, but if a customer can vouch for their high-quality work, you’re on the right track to finding your tradie!

So there you have it, a few simple queries to separate the pros from the amateurs. Also, don’t forget to go with your gut; if something doesn’t feel right, chances are it’s not! At Express Plumbing we are proud of our heritage, both in terms of qualifications and experience. We tick all of the boxes above and we conduct our work with honesty and integrity.
